RED TWENY
STATEMENT ABOUT THE ARTIST'S WORK
"Red Tweny’s drawings are characterized by an exaggerated and mesmerizing use of black ink. His subjects produce a strong impressionistic impact and are immediately recognizable among others. The meanings are not hidden but are rather brought out with simplicity and immediacy, without useless elements.
His studies are centered around lonely characters that writhe, tangle and dissolve in a vain attempt to give meaning to their existence. A recurring theme is the human being seen as if he were experiencing an accident or enduring a surgical operation without anesthesia. The deep expressionistic charge utilizes the exclusive use of black and white to escalate the violence, coldness, squalor and desolation of the human condition, torn by internal and external crisis; Tweny observes reality as opposed to the higher needs of the human soul, which is almost always disappointed. The stark use of black and white gives a more edgy character to his subjects which are often suspended in an airless white space. The feeling of asphyxiation increases the tension of the bodies gasping and convulsing, writhing and tumbling within the empty void that supports them. Another of Tweny’s skills is to create entities which together express horror and destruction, but when observed closely reveal dozens of harmonic elements: continuous and perfect spirals, perfect waves and infinite smoothly rounded bends. It is the second interpretation of the works of Red Tweny that reminds us of the continuous conflict and compromise that humans must manage throughout their existence." |
